Who was the first explorer to document the existence of Savannahs?

I'm not totally sure, but I think it might have been Vasco da Gama. He was a famous explorer from Portugal who sailed around the coast of Africa in the late 15th century. I remember reading somewhere that he wrote about seeing savannahs during his travels, so he might be the first one to document their existence.

Of course, there were probably other explorers who saw savannahs before him but just didn't write about it. And there were definitely people living in Africa who knew about savannahs long before Europeans showed up! It's kind of crazy to think about how much knowledge and history has been lost because it wasn't written down by the "right" people.

Anyway, back to Vasco da Gama. He was a pretty impressive guy. He led several expeditions to India and played a big role in establishing Portugal's trade relationships in the region. He was also involved in some pretty ruthless stuff, like attacking Muslim ships and forcing them to pay protection money. So he wasn't exactly a hero, but he was definitely a significant figure in world history.

It's interesting to think about how much knowledge and information we take for granted these days. We can access pretty much anything we want to know with just a few clicks of a mouse. But back in Vasco da Gama's time, even basic information about the world beyond Europe was hard to come by. It makes you appreciate the amount of hard work and risk that went into exploring and documenting new places.
