Climate change is one of the most crucial issues facing our world today, and as such, there are numerous individuals who have championed the cause of raising awareness about it. Here are some of the world’s top climate change activists and what they are doing to help tackle the issue:

Greta Thunberg: A 16-year-old Swede, Thunberg is perhaps the most well-known climate activist in the world today. She has been protesting in front of the Swedish parliament every Friday since August 2018, urging politicians to take action on climate change. Thunberg has also addressed the United Nations and other high-profile events, where she has called on world leaders to do more to combat climate change.

Bill McKibben: A writer and environmentalist, McKibben is one of the founders of the grassroots movement 350.org. The organization’s name refers to the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that scientists believe is safe for humans. McKibben has written numerous books and articles about global warming and has been involved in organizing events such as the People’s Climate March, which drew thousands of people to New York City in 2014.

Naomi Klein: A Canadian journalist and activist, Klein has written about climate change and its connections to economic inequality in her book “This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate.” She argues that we need to not only address the environmental aspects of climate change but also address the underlying economic system that is driving it. Klein is also involved with various campaigns, such as the Leap Manifesto, which calls for a Canada free from fossil fuels by 2050.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: A U.S. Congresswoman, Ocasio-Cortez has become a vocal advocate for the Green New Deal, a comprehensive plan to combat climate change, create jobs and reduce economic inequality. Her proposal has faced criticism from many Republicans, but it has galvanized young people and progressives who believe that urgent action is needed to tackle climate change.

Vanessa Nakate: A climate activist from Uganda, Nakate has been involved in protests and campaigns aimed at raising awareness about the impact of climate change in Africa. She has argued that the continent is already suffering the effects of global warming, and that developed countries need to do more to help developing nations adapt to the changing climate. Nakate also founded the Rise Up Climate Movement, which seeks to mobilize young people across Africa in the fight against climate change.

These are just a few examples of the many activists who are working tirelessly to raise awareness about climate change and push for urgent action. Whether it’s through protests, writing, or political advocacy, they are all making a difference and inspiring others to join in the fight.
