Is the Academy biased towards mainstream Hollywood films and neglectful of independent and international films?
Hey there,
I believe that the Academy may have a bias towards mainstream Hollywood films, as these types of movies tend to dominate the nominations and wins come awards season. However, I don't necessarily think they are neglectful of independent and international films.
That being said, there are definitely instances where independent and international films are overlooked or not given as much attention as the big budget Hollywood productions. This may have to do with the fact that Hollywood films often have bigger marketing budgets and wider releases, making them more visible to the general public and therefore, more likely to be on the Academy's radar.
But at the end of the day, the Academy is made up of individuals who have their own tastes and preferences when it comes to cinema. So, it's not entirely surprising that certain films or genres may be favored over others. That's just human nature.
However, it's important to note that the Academy has been making strides in recent years to diversify its membership and be more inclusive of different voices and perspectives in the industry. This can only be a positive thing for the future of film and the recognition of all types of cinema.
In conclusion, while there may be an inherent bias towards mainstream Hollywood films, I don't believe the Academy is intentionally neglectful of independent and international films. It's up to us as viewers and fans to seek out and support those films that may not have the same level of visibility or recognition.
