What are the challenges faced by historians in accurately documenting modern-day genocides?

Sometimes, people are hiding, or they're scared to talk because they're afraid of being killed. Other times, evidence is destroyed or buried, making it nearly impossible to find out what happened.

Lastly, there is often a lot of misinformation being spread about what's happening during a genocide, which can make it difficult for historians to determine what the truth is. For example, some groups may say that they are just defending themselves or that they are being attacked by others, even though they are the ones committing the genocide.
