How do we balance copyright protections with fair use rights?

When we create something new like a song, a picture or a story, it belongs to us. This is called copyright. That means no one can use it or copy it without our permission.

But sometimes, other people want to use our things to make their own things. This is called fair use. For example, a teacher might want to use a picture in her class to help her students learn about something.

So, how do we make sure that people can use our things in a fair way without taking away our rights? It's a tricky question!

One way to balance copyright and fair use is to have rules that say what people can and can't do. For example, there might be a rule that says you can use a picture for educational purposes, but not for a commercial product.

Another way is to talk to each other. We can ask people if they can use our things and come up with an agreement that works for both of us. Sometimes, we might ask for money if someone wants to use our things for a business project.

Overall, it's important to remember that creators have the right to protect their work and decide how it's used. At the same time, fair use allows people to use and build on existing work, which can lead to even more creativity and innovation.
