How has Putin's relationship with the United States evolved over time?

Now, Putin's relationship with the United States has changed over time. At first, when he became president in 2000, things were kind of okay. Russia and the United States were friendly and worked together on some things. But then, things started to get a little bumpy.

One big issue was when Russia annexed Crimea, which used to be part of Ukraine. The United States didn't like that at all, and things got tense between the two countries. Plus, there were allegations that Russia interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, which made things even more tense.

But, there have been some efforts to improve the relationship too. For example, in 2018, Putin and President Trump had a summit in Finland to try to talk things out. There were also some meetings between high-ranking officials from both countries.
