Well, as a big fan of TV shows and programs, I've definitely been keeping an eye on some of the top directors in the industry. There are a lot of talented people out there, but a few have definitely stood out to me this year.

At the top of my list is probably Ava DuVernay. She's been making waves in the industry for a while now, but her work on "Queen Sugar" and "When They See Us" was truly outstanding. She has a way of really getting to the heart of social issues and making them accessible to a wide audience. Plus, her direction is just visually stunning.

Another director who's really impressed me is Hiro Murai. He's worked on some of my favorite shows, like "Atlanta" and "Barry," and his style is incredibly unique. He has a way of blending comedy and drama that's really effective, and his visuals are always breathtaking. I feel like he's really helped to redefine what's possible in television.

Of course, I can't talk about top directors without mentioning David Lynch. He's been a staple of the industry for decades, but his work on "Twin Peaks: The Return" in 2017 was really something special. I think he's one of the best at creating atmosphere and mood, and his ability to keep viewers on the edge of their seats is really impressive.

Some other directors who have caught my attention this year include Susanne Bier, who did some great work on "The Undoing," and Michaela Coel, who wrote, directed, and starred in "I May Destroy You." Both of these shows were incredibly well-made, and I think they really demonstrate the power that directors have to shape a story.

Overall, I think 2021 has been a great year for television directing. There are a lot of talented people out there who are pushing the boundaries of what we can expect from the medium, and I'm excited to see where things go from here.
