What are the most valuable gemstones in the world?
When it comes to precious gemstones, the world is full of them. Each gemstone possesses its unique properties that make them so special. While some people collect gemstones for their aesthetic value, others invest in them because of their rarity and increasing market value. As a passionate collector of jewels, I would say that there is an endless list of precious gemstones in the world. But, in my opinion, some of the most valuable ones are:
1. The Diamond
The diamond is one of the most well-known gemstones in the world. Apart from its high demand in the jewelry industry, its rarity, and its association with love and commitment, it is also one of the hardest materials on earth. The diamond is graded using the 4 Cs that are color, clarity, cut, and carat. The more perfect the diamond is in these four areas, the higher its value.
2. The Ruby
Rubies are another type of gemstone that is highly valued in the jewelry industry. A ruby is a red variety of corundum and is considered a precious stone when it is of high quality and color. Ruby is associated with passion, love, and romance, which give it great sentimental value too.
3. The Emerald
Emeralds are green gemstones that are highly valued for their color. Unlike other gemstones that are graded based on their “flawlessness,” emeralds are graded on the basis of how ‘flawed’ they are, meaning that the inclusions and color distribution play an important role in their value.
4. The Sapphire
Sapphires are another precious gemstone that is highly sought after. A sapphire is a blue variety of corundum and like other gemstones, it is graded based on its color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. However, sapphires that have a deep blue color, cut well, and are free of inclusions are extremely rare and command a high value.
5. The Red Beryl
Red Beryl is one of the rarest and most valuable gemstones in the world. It is estimated that there is only one Red Beryl found for every 150,000 diamonds. Red Beryl is found in Utah, USA, and is known for its bright red color and unique formation. Because of its rarity, this gem can cost up to $10,000 per carat.
These are just a few examples of the most valuable gemstones in the world. However, the value of a gemstone is based on several factors like rarity, beauty, durability, and sentimental value. So, each stone may have its unique value to different people. As a collector, I always treasure every stone that I have in my collection, whether it is one of the so-called “precious” gemstones or not.
