How does existentialism impact our morality?

I think that existentialism has a huge impact on our morality. Existentialism is all about individuals taking responsibility for their lives since they don't believe in predetermined purpose which affects our choices and way of living. This philosophical school views human life as subjective and individualistic, highlighting a person's free will and ability to determine their own morality.

Existentialism emphasizes the importance of self-determination that can affect how we perceive and shape our actions. Instead of being handed values and moral principles, individuals are left to create their own. This can lead to the development of a moral code that is unique to an individual's experiences and subjectivity.

For an existentialist, morality is not about universal principles, but instead, personal values because it's almost impossible for everyone to have the same views on the same topic. For existentialists, an individual's will is what drives his/her choices and actions, therefore, morality is wholly subjective.

Moreover, existentialism can help us see the importance of our actions and the impact of our choices. If we are the ones responsible for our lives, and therefore our actions, we have the ability to choose how to behave, including how to interact with others. Being aware of this personal power can lead to a greater sense of responsibility for our actions and their consequences.

Existentialism questions the meaning of existence and emphasizes the importance of creating meaning for oneself. This search for meaning can be reflected in our moral decisions, by shaping the actions we take and the values we embrace. By recognizing our ability to choose our own path and create our own meaning, we can become more aware of our actions and the potential impact they have on others.

In conclusion, existentialism plays a vital role in determining our morality. By promoting individualism, responsibility, and self-awareness, existentialist thought can help us to realize our own subjective values and develop our morality accordingly. While these ideas may not be universally accepted, they allow us to shape our own understanding of the world and our place in it, creating a moral framework that is unique to our experiences.
