Yes, I strongly believe that the lack of a common language or lingua franca can lead to decreased opportunities for international cooperation and trade. When people from different countries and cultures come together to collaborate or do business, communication is key. If people aren't able to understand each other properly, it can lead to miscommunication and misunderstandings, which can ultimately affect the outcome of the collaboration or transaction.

For instance, if a business from the United States wants to sell their product in Japan, but they don't have any employees who are fluent in Japanese, they may struggle to effectively communicate with potential clients or partners. This could result in lost opportunities for both parties. Similarly, if two researchers from different countries want to collaborate on a project, but they don't have any common language skills, it could be difficult to share information and progress the project.

Furthermore, a lack of a common language can also affect cultural understanding and relations. Without the ability to communicate effectively, people may struggle to understand each other's cultural norms and values.
