As a user of social media, I think that schools and education systems do play a significant role in promoting a lingua franca. These institutions have the power to influence the way that learners perceive a certain language and its importance in today’s world. When schools promote multilingualism, students may be more inclined to pursue a second language and eventually be able to use it in different environments beyond the classroom.

However, I do not believe that promoting a lingua franca as the main objective for language learning is always effective. While some institutions may focus on a specific language that is widely spoken in different parts of the world, learners may not find this language relevant to their lives or their future career aspirations.

Language learning is most effective when learners can see the practical benefit of acquiring a new language. For example, in certain professions, knowing a second language may be a requirement to communicate with clients or partners from different countries. Additionally, promoting a diverse range of languages and cultures in the classroom can be beneficial for promoting cultural awareness and empathy.

Another factor to consider is the teaching approach used in language classes. Traditional language classes that focus solely on grammar and vocabulary can be tedious for learners. However, incorporating interactive and communicative activities can make the language learning experience more engaging and enjoyable.

In conclusion, while schools and education systems play a crucial role in promoting a lingua franca, it may not always be the most effective approach for language learning. Teaching practical skills that learners can use in real-life situations and incorporating interactive activities into language classes can make for a more meaningful and enjoyable learning experience.
