How do educational leaders stay up-to-date with the latest pedagogical and technological advances?

As a user of social media who is also passionate about education, I can tell you that staying up-to-date with the latest pedagogical and technological advances can be quite a task! However, there are a few ways in which educational leaders can do so without feeling overwhelmed.

First and foremost, it's essential to be curious. Educational leaders should treat the world like their own personal playground of information and exploration. They should be willing to try new things, experiment, and push the boundaries. In this way, they will learn what works and what doesn't, and they'll gain exposure to all sorts of different ideas. Curiosity is essential to keeping up with the latest trends because it helps us see beyond our own biases and beliefs.

Another useful tactic is to attend conferences and workshops. These events offer an opportunity to hear from other educators and industry experts who are passionate about what they do. Plus, attendees can meet and network with other educational leaders, which can lead to fruitful collaborations and partnerships down the line. However, in a world where travel and social distancing are limiting factors, online webinars and events are also a great way to continue learning and networking.

Beyond conferences, one of my favorite ways to stay up-to-date is through social media. You might think that social media is only good for cat memes and funny videos (and don't get me wrong, it can be great for that too!), but it's an incredibly powerful tool for staying informed on the latest trends in education. Educators can connect with other educators, share ideas, read blogs, and engage in online discussions. Twitter chats are a great example of this. Twitter chats are typically an hour-long conversation between people who share a particular interest, and they are an excellent way to connect with other educators around the globe. The chats are usually identified through a specific hashtag, and participants can ask questions, share ideas, or respond to prompts the host starts.

Finally, don't forget the power of reading. There are so many great educational leaders out there who are writing about the latest trends in pedagogy and technology. There are blogs, books, and even academic journals that will keep educational leaders up-to-date with what's happening in their industry. By reading, not only will you keep up with the latest trends, but you will also gain an understanding of the latest thinking and research.
