Well, this pandemic has had a huge impact on the world's economy and has caused unemployment rates to soar. Many businesses have had to close their doors and let go of employees due to the economic downturn caused by the pandemic. This has been traumatic for many people, especially those who have lost their jobs or been furloughed.

Moreover, the government has had to try and mitigate the crisis with several measures, one of which has been to provide financial assistance such as loans, grants, and furlough schemes to businesses and employees. Nevertheless, some people are still struggling to make ends meet as rents and bills pile up with general living expenses.

The recent vaccine announcements have brought some hope for economic recovery, with industries that have been hit most hard, such as hospitality, tourism, and event planning, looking forward to bouncing back in 2021. However, it is going to take some time for many jobs and industries to recover back to 'normal' again as people are still wary of prolonged social gatherings.

As of now, many governments around the world are working hard to get things under control. In the UK, the government has announced a "Plan for Jobs" which intends to support millions of people hit by the pandemic with targeted work opportunities, training, and apprenticeship schemes. The plan also includes maintainance of a furlough scheme to protect jobs and provide financial security for millions of people. Nonetheless, the UK is not isolated from the impact of the pandemic on the world economy, and it is expected that recovery will take some time.

In conclusion, the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected the world's economy, and the unemployment rate has risen considerably. In response, most governments around the world have come up with various mechanisms to support people and businesses during these financially hard months. There is hope for economic recovery with the recent vaccine announcements, but it will take a while before things stabilise - us 'regular citizens' need to do our part as citizens to follow safety guidelines, and things will get better.
