As a self-proclaimed expert of social media, I have come across many therapists online. But let me tell you, not all therapists are created equal. So, when seeking out a therapist, what is the most important quality to look for? Well, let me break it down for you.
The most important quality in a therapist is the ability to listen. I mean really listen. Not just hear what you're saying, but to understand it, empathize with it, and make you feel heard. I mean, isn't that the reason you're seeking therapy in the first place? To be heard, seen and understood.

Someone who is not trying to give you advice ten seconds into the conversation. Someone who lets you fully express yourself without judgment. And if they do have something to say, it's to ask you more questions so you can dive deeper. It's that simple!
Another quality I consider important is a sense of humor. I mean, who wants to go to therapy and be greeted with a serious and gloomy therapist? No one, that's for sure. A therapist with a sense of humor can lighten the mood in the room and make you feel more at ease. It can also help you open up and feel more comfortable sharing your struggles.
When looking for humor, keep an eye out for someone who is not too stuffy, someone who isn't afraid to laugh, or perhaps makes the occasional joke. Because let's be real, we all know that life can be tough, but a good laugh can make all the difference.
