For example, Charades, a game where players acted out words for others to guess, was a popular parlor game.

Fast forward to the 20th century and family games began to take on a new form with the advent of board games. In 1935, Monopoly was invented and quickly became a sensation. It was a game that required players to buy, sell, and trade properties to become the richest player.
