What has been the most controversial LGBTQ film in recent years?
Well, there have been a lot of controversial LGBTQ films in recent years, so it's a tough question to answer definitively. Some people might say that it's "Brokeback Mountain" from 2005. That one really shook things up when it was released, because it was one of the first mainstream films to focus on a gay love story. I remember hearing a lot of talk about it at the time.
But if we're talking more recently, I might say that "Call Me By Your Name" from 2017 was pretty controversial. Some people loved it, but others thought it was creepy or even predatory (since it's about an older man having a relationship with a teenage boy). Personally, I thought it was a beautiful movie, and the age difference didn't bother me too much because both characters were consenting adults (even if one was technically a minor).
Another film that comes to mind is "Boy Erased" from 2018. That one is about conversion therapy, which is obviously a very divisive topic. Some people thought that the film didn't go far enough in condemning the practice, while others thought that it was too harsh on religion and religious people. Personally, I thought it struck a good balance between showing the harm that conversion therapy can cause and respecting people's right to their own beliefs.
Then there's "Rocketman" from 2019, which is a biopic about Elton John. It's not controversial in the sense that it's explicitly political or anything, but it does depict Elton's struggles with his sexuality and substance abuse. Some people might find those themes uncomfortable, especially if they're not used to seeing LGBTQ stories on the big screen.
Honestly, though, I think the most controversial LGBTQ film in recent years is whichever one you ask someone about. Different people have different opinions and sensitivities when it comes to these issues, so it's hard to say definitively which film is the most controversial. But I do think it's great that we're seeing more and more LGBTQ representation in media, even if it does sometimes make people uncomfortable or upset.
