According to a 2019 report by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), the top countries for efficient and accessible mass transit systems are Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Taipei, and Tokyo. These countries have invested heavily in their infrastructures and have implemented smart technologies to improve systems. For example, Hong Kong boasts an on-time rate for their MTR (Mass Transit Railway) of 99.9%, and Singapore has recently launched a new fleet of electric buses that come equipped with USB charging ports and WiFi.

On the other end of the spectrum, the countries that rate the lowest in terms of efficiency and accessibility are typically those with less developed mass transit systems or high traffic congestion. Some examples of these countries include India, Indonesia, and Brazil. India's public transit system is notoriously inefficient and overcrowded, with many commuters not even having access to a public transportation system. In Jakarta, Indonesia, traffic congestion is so severe that it can take commuters up to two hours to travel just 10 kilometers. Meanwhile, Brazil's public transit system is plagued with issues such as delays, overcrowding, and crime.

Of course, there are many countries that fall somewhere in between these extremes. In the United States, for example, major cities such as New York and Chicago have well-developed transit systems, while others like Los Angeles have struggled to implement effective systems due to urban sprawl and funding issues. In European countries such as Germany and the Netherlands, the focus has been on creating multimodal transportation systems that incorporate bicycling and walking paths along with public transit options.

Overall, the efficiency and accessibility of mass transit systems are influenced by a variety of factors such as population density, urban planning, funding, and technological innovation.
