What kind of lessons can be learned from the plight of the civilizations close to extinction in ancient and prehistoric history?

When we look back at the history of the world, we can notice that there were some civilizations that went close to extinction and others that could survive. This makes us wonder about the lessons that we can learn from them and apply them to our daily lives.

First of all, we can learn about the importance of adaptation. The civilizations that could survive were able to adapt to the environmental changes. For example, the Inca civilization in South America could manage to flourish in high altitudes because they developed innovations such as terracing to farm on steep slopes. Similarly, the Aztecs were able to build their cities on islands and swamps because of their unique floating garden system. This teaches us the value of flexibility and resourcefulness in overcoming adversity.

Secondly, we can learn about the importance of unity and collaboration. In ancient times, the successful civilizations were those that could form alliances and work together towards common goals. A prime example of this is the alliance between ancient Athens and Sparta, which was key to their victory over the Persians in the Persian Wars. Furthermore, the Maya civilization was able to sustain itself for centuries because of its strong social structure and collaborative effort in agriculture and trade.

Thirdly, we can learn about the significance of knowledge and technology. Civilizations that were advanced in their knowledge and technology were better equipped to handle crises. For instance, the ancient Egyptians developed an advanced irrigation system that enabled them to manage the water supply of the Nile River and prevent devastating droughts. Also, the Romans mastered the art of construction, which allowed them to build strong and durable structures that could withstand earthquakes.

In conclusion, the plight of the civilizations close to extinction in ancient and prehistoric history can teach us some very valuable lessons. We can learn about the importance of adaptation, unity and collaboration, and knowledge and technology.
