Who is the most influential person in religious philosophy?

Well, that's a tough question! There are so many people who could be considered influential in the realm of religious philosophy, spanning cultures and time periods. However, I think one person who often gets overlooked but who has had a profound impact on Western thought is the medieval theologian and philosopher, Thomas Aquinas.

Aquinas was born in Italy in the 13th century and became known for his works on natural law, ethics, and theology. He heavily relied upon the works of Aristotle, reintroducing Aristotelian thought back into the Western world after it had been lost during the dark ages. His synthesis of Aristotelian philosophy and Christianity was unprecedented and opened up new avenues of thought for future generations.

Aquinas was also a champion of reason and rationality in understanding the divine. He believed that faith and reason were not mutually exclusive, but rather complemented each other. He argued that the natural world was a reflection of God's order and that through reason, one could come to know God more fully. In other words, through understanding the natural world, one could gain insight into the divine.

Aquinas' ideas were incredibly influential in shaping Western philosophy, particularly in regards to the relationship between faith and reason. He is often regarded as one of the most important thinkers of the Middle Ages and is still studied and referenced today.

Of course, there are many others who could also make a claim for being the most influential person in religious philosophy. But for me, Aquinas' unique blend of Aristotelian philosophy and Christian theology, his championing of reason in understanding the divine, and his impact on Western thought make him a top candidate.
