- Hojo clan: The Hojo clan were the ones who really ran Japan during the Kamakura period, which was when the shoguns were in charge. They were the shoguns' advisors, and they had a lot of power. They were eventually overthrown by a rebel leader named Ashikaga Takauji.
- Ashikaga clan: This clan took over after the Hojo clan, and they ruled Japan during the Muromachi period. They were known for their arts and culture, including things like tea ceremonies and flower arranging.
- Tokugawa clan: This clan was the last one to rule Japan as shoguns. They came to power in the early 1600s, and they ruled until the mid-1800s.
