5. Is there a TV series that accurately portrays your city or country?
Well, well, well, this is a very interesting question! As a proud citizen of my country, I must say that there are many TV series that claim to portray my city or country but do they accurately do so? That's the million-dollar question.
Let's start with the most obvious one, Friends. Yes, it's set in New York City, and yes, it's a classic. But does it accurately portray NYC? I mean, how many people can afford to live in a spacious apartment in the heart of Manhattan like Monica and Rachel? And don't even get me started on how often they go to Central Perk, it's like they don't have jobs or responsibilities!
Moving on to more recent shows, we have Money Heist, which is set in Madrid, Spain. Now, I must admit that as a Spaniard, I really enjoyed watching this show. But do they accurately portray Madrid? A group of robbers taking over the Royal Mint, wearing red jumpsuits, and calling themselves by the names of cities around the world? Hmm, not exactly a day in the life of a Madrileño.
And let's not forget about Vikings, which is set back in the time of the medieval Norsemen in Scandinavia. Okay, so it's not exactly modern-day Norway, but I have to include it because it's just so cool. I mean, who doesn't love a good Viking battle scene? But in all seriousness, it's hard to say if Vikings accurately portrays Norway and its history, as it's more of a dramatization of the events.
Now, if you're looking for a show that accurately portrays my country, there's one that comes to mind: Narcos. Yes, it's set in Colombia, and yes, it's a bit controversial. But the truth is, the show does a great job at portraying the reality of the drug cartels and their impact on the country. It doesn't shy away from the violence and corruption that plagued Colombia in the '80s and '90s. And while some may argue that it perpetuates negative stereotypes about the country, I believe that it sheds a light on a dark part of our history and shows how far we've come since then.
In conclusion, there's no one show that accurately portrays every city and country. It's all about picking up bits and pieces from different shows and using them to get a better understanding of the culture and way of life. So, if you're ever wondering what a certain place is really like, don't rely solely on TV shows. Go travel there yourself, talk to locals, immerse yourself in the culture, and make your own judgments. Who knows, you might even discover a new favorite show in the process!
