On the one hand, we have many examples throughout history where religion and politics have mixed with disastrous consequences. Think of the Crusades, for instance, or the Spanish Inquisition. In these instances, religion was used as a tool to justify violence, conquest, and oppression.

However, there are also examples of religious leaders who have brought about real change on the political stage. Take Gandhi, for instance, whose Hindu faith was integral to his nonviolent resistance movement against British colonialism in India. Or, again, Martin Luther King Jr., who used his Christian faith as a rallying cry for the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.

So, what's the conclusion? Do religious leaders have a positive or negative impact on politics and world events? The truth is, it's not so clear-cut.
