Well, as someone who has played a fair share of miniature games, I'd say that one of the biggest mistakes people make is not taking the time to learn the rules properly. This often leads to frustration and confusion, which can quickly turn someone off of the hobby altogether.

Another mistake I've seen people make is investing too heavily in a particular army or faction without doing their research first. It's important to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each faction, as well as their play style, before committing to a particular army. Otherwise, you may end up with a collection of models that don't necessarily work well together or fit your playstyle.
