Which civilization had the greatest influence on the development of art and culture?

In my opinion, it is difficult to pinpoint just one civilization that had the greatest influence on the development of art and culture as we know it today. However, there are a few that stand out to me as having made significant contributions.

Firstly, the ancient Greeks have had a profound impact on the arts. From the creation of the first theatre to the development of philosophy and literature, the Greeks set the standards for what was considered beautiful and meaningful. Their classical style of art and architecture, with its emphasis on symmetry and harmony, has continued to inspire artists for centuries.

The Roman Empire, too, had a major influence on art and culture. While they were heavily influenced by the Greeks, they took their own approach in creating art that reflected the power and grandeur of their empire. Roman art was often used as a political tool, with large public monuments and sculptures serving as symbols of the empire's strength.

Moving forward in time, the Renaissance is perhaps one of the most significant periods in the development of art and culture in Western society. With its focus on humanism and the revival of classical styles and subjects, the Renaissance marked a major shift in the way artists approached their work. The works of artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo continue to be studied and revered today.

Beyond Europe, the Islamic Golden Age had a significant impact on the arts and sciences. Of course, there are many other civilizations that have had their own unique contributions to the development of art and culture.
