But we can't talk about directing without mentioning France, mais oui. The French New Wave in the 60s and 70s was a major movement in cinema, and it was spearheaded by some brilliant directors like Jean-Luc Godard and Francois Truffaut. Even now, French cinema is known for its unique and thought-provoking films, and directors like Claire Denis and Olivier Assayas continue to push boundaries and challenge audiences.

And of course, we can't forget about our British counterparts across the pond. The UK has produced some seriously talented directors over the years, from Alfred Hitchcock to Danny Boyle. There's just something about that dry British wit that translates so well to film, you know?
