Starting off in Europe, we can look all the way back to ancient Greece and Rome, where direct democracy and the Senate were born. Fast forward a bit and we have the monarchies that dominated Europe for centuries. But then, the Enlightenment happened and ideas about individual liberty and democracy took hold. Cue French Revolution and voila, we see the rise of republics and constitutional monarchies all across Europe.

Moving over to Asia, we see a whole different set of political systems. We have the dynasties of China, the Shogunates of Japan, and the Indian subcontinent's Mughal Empire. However, in the 20th century, many of these empires and monarchies fell to revolution and the establishment of new political systems.
