He was able to bring people together, despite their differences, and achieve a peaceful transition to democracy after years of apartheid.

Similarly, in India, leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi, had a significant impact on democracy. Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, was instrumental in shaping the country's constitution and promoting the principles of democracy. Gandhi, on the other hand, was a key figure in the Indian independence movement, and his nonviolent resistance techniques inspired many other countries in the world.

Unfortunately, not all past leaders have been so successful. There have also been many instances where leaders have used their power to undermine democracy and basic human rights. In Venezuela, for example, the current President Nicolas Maduro has been accused of authoritarianism, rigging elections, and suppressing opposition. This has led to widespread protests and a huge increase in emigration rates.

In Turkey, President Erdogan has also been criticized for adopting authoritarian tactics, such as suppressing the media and imprisoning opposition leaders, which has had a negative impact on democracy and the country's economy.

So, what can we learn from all this? Well, I believe that it's important to understand the positive impact of past leaders, while also being aware of the negative consequences that can result from their actions. We need to carefully evaluate their policies and decisions, and hold them accountable if they violate democratic principles.
