He managed to negotiate a peaceful resolution to a longstanding dispute with Great Britain over the Oregon Territory, securing the northern boundary of the US and paving the way for westward expansion. He also successfully negotiated the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican-American War and added huge swaths of land to the United States. In fact, Polk's presidency saw the largest territorial expansion of any in US history!

But Polk wasn't just a great diplomat - he was also a visionary leader. He was a strong advocate for Manifest Destiny, the idea that it was America's destiny to expand westward and exert its influence across the continent. And he was committed to making that vision a reality. He oversaw the creation of the Department of the Interior, which was responsible for managing the country's vast natural resources.
