Science fiction has been inspiring tech innovations and advancements for decades, and truth be told, technology is often influenced by the imagination of science fiction writers. So, what impact has science fiction had on technology and innovation? Let’s jump into the world of futurism and explore!

Science fiction has been a prediction of the future for many years. It’s fascinating to note that many gadgets and technologies we use today were imagined in some form or another by science fiction writers of the past. Take, for example, the legendary science fiction video communicator in Star Trek. It’s like a smartphone, but it's only in the 60’s that it was "cool and futuristic." This video communicator has influenced the development of video calling technology and ultimately communicating through everyday devices like your smartphone. Science fiction technology has also predicted the coming of biometric security, touch-screen interfaces, AI, and autonomous robots. We can always expect that there will be more influence from science fiction on the future of tech as new challenges emerge in the world.

Apart from prediction, science fiction is a gateway to exploration and imagination. For instance, The Matrix, released in 1999, gave us a unique introduction to alternative worlds and virtual reality. Elon Musk’s inspiration comes from his love of science fiction, including works by famous sci-fi author Isaac Asimov. It’s amazing how science fiction can inspire people to change the future.
