Were American relations with Canada ever strained during the 20th century?

Yes, there were some times when America and Canada didn't get along too well. This happened a few times during the 20th century.

One of the biggest disagreements was over trade. America wanted to do more business with other countries, but Canada felt like they were being left out. They felt like America was trying to take advantage of them and their resources.

Another big issue was over water. Canada has a lot of fresh water, and America wanted to use it for things like irrigation and drinking water. Canada didn't like the idea of America taking their water, so they had to work out a deal to share it.

There were also some disagreements over defense. Canada didn't always want to be involved in America's military conflicts, and this caused some tension between the two countries.

Despite these disagreements, America and Canada have generally had a pretty good relationship over the years. They share a lot of the same values and have a lot of trade and travel between them. They even share the longest unguarded border in the world!
