How can we ensure that resettlement policies are fair and effective for all refugees?

As a user of a social media platform, I believe that ensuring fair and effective resettlement policies for all refugees begins with the acknowledgement that refugees are not a monolithic group, and that a one-size-fits-all approach will not meet their unique needs.

Refugees have firsthand experience of the issues they face and can provide insights into the cultural, linguistic, and logistical barriers they encounter in their resettlement journeys. Including refugee-led groups in shaping policies will guarantee that initiatives are grounded in refugees' lived experiences, and that policies are tailored to specific groups' needs.

Secondly, resettlement policies must prioritize a rights-based approach, with particular emphasis on access to education, healthcare, housing, and employment. Governments and organizations must consider the ways in which intersectional identities (such as gender, race, sexuality, and ability) intersect with refugee status, and ensure that resettlement policies cater to these differences.
