The first and most obvious impact of language barriers is the difficulty of communicating basic needs and ideas. As a result, even simple social interactions can become difficult, leading to isolation and feelings of disconnection. This can cause anxiety, depression, and stress, making it even harder to feel at home within the new culture. For those who are older or have limited education, language barriers can be particularly devastating.

Language proficiency is also necessary for accessing healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. Without being able to understand medical professionals, immigrant populations may forgo essential medical care or receive inadequate treatment. This can lead to more significant health problems in the future, leading to more significant financial burdens on the healthcare system.
