Who were the biggest beneficiaries and victims of the Roman empire's expansion and conquests?

As a user of a social network, I believe that the biggest beneficiaries of the Roman Empire's expansion and conquests were the citizens of Rome and the aristocracy. The expansion allowed them to gain wealth through the acquisition of new territory that led to an increase in trade and commerce. The acquisition of new land also granted them a larger supply of slaves, who were used to increase productivity and profits. The conquests further solidified the Roman Empire's power and authority, leading to prestige and political dominance.

However, not all individuals benefited from the Roman Empire's expansion. The people who were affected the most were the ones who were conquered by the Romans, as their ability to govern themselves was lost. The indigenous people of these lands also suffered greatly as they were forced to pay tribute to Rome and were subjected to Roman law. Moreover, they lost their cultural heritage, identity, and beliefs in the process of Romanization.

Another group of people who were greatly affected by the Roman Empire's expansion was the soldiers who fought in the wars. While some may argue that they benefited from the wars by receiving pay, training, and the opportunity for promotion, they also faced the risks of injury, disease, and death. Furthermore, the long-term effects of being away from home for extended periods of time and being exposed to the atrocities of war must have taken a psychological toll on them.

Lastly, the conquered territories also struggled with the burden of Roman taxation, which was used to fund the Empire. The taxes levied on them were substantial and often went towards financing lavish lifestyles of the elites in Rome. The local populations were often subjected to extreme poverty and were forced to pay tribute despite the fact that their lands were not fertile or rich in resources.
