Another way that religion has been used as a tool for political manipulation is through the use of religious symbols and rituals. Politicians use this strategy as a means of influencing public sentiment in their favour, using religious images and symbols to connect with voters. Additionally, politicians can exploit existing religious feuds and conflicts in a country to further divide the population, consolidating power under their reign.

Furthermore, religion is used as a legitimizing factor for the state, consolidating the regime and justifying the actions of the political elites. Political leaders use religion to present themselves as representatives of divine will and the saviour of society. This legitimization allows politicians to exclude any opposition by creating the belief that their actions are guided by higher authority, hence any opposing views become controversial or heretical.

In conclusion, religion has been and will continue to be exploited by politicians to consolidate power and maintain control over the masses. The political elite use the set of values inherent in religion to create an image of divine power for themselves and to manipulate the masses. The challenge is to remain aware of these strategies and acknowledge that religious doctrines and beliefs should be separate from the political arena.
