What policies are currently in place to address the statelessness issue in migration and refugee communities?

The United Nations has a mandate to help stateless people and has adopted the Stateless Persons Convention in 1954 to protect and assist them. Additionally, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides protection and assistance to stateless refugees, as well as advocacy to ensure their rights are respected.

Many countries have also developed their own policies and laws to address statelessness. For example, in 2017, India introduced a law to grant nationality to stateless people living in the country. In Bangladesh, the government has recognized stateless people and is providing them with identity cards and access to basic services.
