When it comes to mountainous regions, there are so many beautiful places in the world to choose from. Whether you're an avid hiker, a nature enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates a breathtaking view, here is my list of the top 10 must-visit mountainous regions:

1. The Himalayas: Spanning across several countries including India, Nepal and Bhutan, the Himalayas are home to the tallest mountain peak in the world, Mount Everest. But that's not all the region has to offer - trekking through the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal or exploring the Buddhist monasteries in Bhutan are just a few of the many adventures the Himalayas have in store.

2. The Rocky Mountains: Stretching over 3,000 miles across North America, the Rocky Mountains offer some of the most diverse and breathtaking landscapes in the world. From the snow-capped peaks of Banff National Park in Canada to the red-rock formations of Colorado's Garden of the Gods, there's something for everyone in this range.

3. The Andes: If you're looking to explore South America, the Andes should be at the top of your list. The range runs through seven countries including Peru, Chile and Argentina, and is home to a number of UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Machu Picchu and the Colombian Coffee Cultural Landscape.

4. The Swiss Alps: No mountain list is complete without mentioning the Swiss Alps. Known for its skiing and snowboarding opportunities, the Swiss Alps also offer plenty of picturesque towns, hiking trails and ice caves to explore.

5. The Canadian Rockies: Similar to their American counterpart, the Canadian Rockies offer a diverse range of landscapes that spans over 900 km. Highlights include Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and the Athabasca Glacier.

6. The Pyrenees: Bordering France and Spain, the Pyrenees offer a unique blend of cultures and landscapes. From the medieval village of Carcassonne to the ski resorts of Andorra, there's plenty to see and do in this region.

7. The Atlas Mountains: Located in Morocco, the Atlas Mountains offer a look into traditional Berber culture. Highlights include the Ait Ben Haddou UNESCO site and the town of Imlil, which serves as a gateway to the iconic Mount Toubkal.

8. The Dolomites: Located in northern Italy, the Dolomites are a UNESCO World Heritage site known for their rugged peaks and alpine meadows. The range is also home to several ski resorts such as Cortina d'Ampezzo and Val Gardena.

9. The Alaska Range: Known for its extreme winter conditions and grizzly bear sightings, the Alaska Range offers a unique experience for those brave enough to venture into its rugged terrain. Highlights include Denali National Park and the town of Talkeetna.

10. The Drakensberg Mountains: Located in South Africa, the Drakensberg Mountains offer a chance to explore the country's rich cultural heritage. The range is dotted with ancient rock art sites and is home to several wildlife reserves such as the Royal Natal National Park.

There you have it - my list of the top 10 must-visit mountainous regions in the world. From the tallest peak to ancient rock art sites, there's something for everyone in these breathtakingly beautiful ranges.
