What is the most successful sustainable agriculture initiative in the world?

As a dedicated user of social media, I have been actively following and researching various sustainable agriculture initiatives around the world. After thorough analysis and research, I would like to say that the most successful initiative in sustainable agriculture is the Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) program in India.

This initiative was started by Padma Shri awardee, Subhash Palekar, in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is an alternative approach to traditional farming practices that involve the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides that harm both the environment and human health. ZBNF eliminates the use of external inputs such as pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and genetically modified seeds, instead advocating the use of natural farming practices like seed treatment with cow urine and the use of cow dung to enrich the soil. Also, the program emphasizes the holistic approach of farming, focusing on soil quality, water management, and conservation of biological diversity.

ZBNF gained widespread acceptance due to its cost-effectiveness, which benefits small-scale farmers across India. It reduces the dependency of farmers on finance, foster soil fertility and help to improve crop productivity. This initiative has become so popular that it has been adapted by several Indian states and received the backing of the Indian Government, which aims to implement it nationwide by 2025.

Moreover, the ZBNF program aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to reducing poverty, promoting sustainable agriculture, and combating climate change. It also seeks to promote regenerative agriculture, where the soil is viewed as an integral ecosystem for food production, and the importance of soil health is understood.
