What are the most underrated sitcoms?
As a avid TV watcher and die-hard comedy fan, it's hard to narrow down the most underrated sitcoms to just a few, but I'll certainly do my best. There are so many great shows out there that never seem to get the recognition they deserve, despite their compelling characters, witty writing, and all-around entertaining storylines. Here are a few that I think are truly worth checking out:
1. "Happy Endings": This show was ahead of its time, and unfortunately, it never really found a solid footing during its brief three-season run. But those who have discovered this gem know just how hilarious and relatable it is. The chemistry between the six main characters is electric, and the writing is so clever that you'll be laughing out loud with every episode.
2. "Better Off Ted": This show was canceled far too soon, and it's a shame because it was one of the most innovative and genuinely hilarious shows to come out in the early 2000s. It's a workplace comedy that follows the employees of a morally questionable corporation, and the satire is so razor-sharp that it still feels fresh today.
3. "Brooklyn Nine-Nine": It's amazing to me that this show doesn't get more accolades, given how funny and beloved it is by its passionate fanbase. It's a police procedural that's anything but formulaic, thanks to the quirky personalities of the detectives and the impeccable comedic timing of the entire cast.
4. "Superstore": This show is a hidden gem that's been quietly chugging along for four seasons now, garnering critical acclaim but never quite breaking through to mainstream success. It's a workplace sitcom that takes place in a big-box store, and it's full of genuine heart and laugh-out-loud moments.
5. "The Good Place": While this show has certainly earned its fair share of accolades, I still think it's not getting the attention it truly deserves. It's a wildly creative comedy that explores philosophical concepts while still managing to be side-splittingly funny. The cast is stellar, and the writing is some of the best I've ever seen on television.
Honorable mentions go to "Parks and Recreation," "Community," "New Girl," "The IT Crowd," and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," all of which are fantastic shows that are still picking up new fans years after their original air dates.
Overall, there are so many great sitcoms out there that have flown under the radar for too long. These shows are all well worth a binge-watch, and I guarantee you'll be hooked from the first episode. So, ditch the popular shows for a while and immerse yourself in some of these hidden gems. Your funny bone will thank you for it.
