Well, as far as I know, geology played a crucial role in the construction of the pyramids in Ancient Egypt. They extracted the stone blocks for the pyramids from quarries located not too far away from their construction sites to minimize transportation expenses. Additionally, they kept an eye out for the type of stone they were getting from the quarries.

The Egyptians used limestone most commonly in the construction of their pyramids, which was abundant in the quarries around the Nile River. They also mined basalt, granite, and sandstone for specific purposes. They used the basalt for the floors of the burial chambers, sandstone in ground-level structures, and granite for the capstone.

The Egyptians chose their quarry sites based on the type of rock present and the location of the quarry. They preferred to excavate quarries in cliffs that had a uniform, horizontal bedrock layer, permitting the removal of huge blocks of stone. They used chisels, hammers, and stone hulls to break off the stone blocks.

In the pyramid's initial phase, the blocks were roughly hewn, and then in the construction process, the masons corrected their stone shapes and smoothed their surfaces, creating the polished surfaces visible today.

Ancient Egyptians were master builders and trackers, using geologic and astronomical observations to construct their pyramids.
