Is there a discernible difference in quality between print and online literary journals?

Well, to be honest, I think it really depends on the individual journal and what you're looking for. I've read some really amazing literary journals both online and in print. At the same time, I've also come across some pretty lackluster ones in both formats.

One thing I will say is that I do think there's something special about holding a physical book or magazine in your hands. There's a certain tactile pleasure to flipping through pages and feeling the weight of the thing in your hands. That being said, I don't think that necessarily means that print journals are "better" than online ones. It's just a different experience.

But when it comes to the actual quality of the content, I don't think format really comes into play. Whether a story or poem is published online or in print doesn't change its intrinsic quality. Of course, there are some people who might be biased against online journals and assume that they're not as prestigious or reputable as print ones, but I don't think that's necessarily fair.

That being said, there are some practical differences between the two formats that could impact the way that a reader experiences the content. For example, online journals often have more interactive features like commenting and social media sharing, while print journals are more static. On the other hand, print journals can sometimes have more sophisticated design and layout, which can enhance the reading experience.

Overall, I guess my answer would be that there's no easy answer to this question. It really depends on your personal preferences and what you're looking for in a literary journal. But ultimately, I don't think the format itself determines whether or not a journal is "good" – it's the quality of the content that really matters.
