Empowerment is when people feel powerful and have the ability to make changes. Social movements and activism are when people come together to fight for a cause they believe in. Empowerment affects social movements and activism by giving people the confidence and tools they need to make a difference.

In the past, social movements and activism were often led by a small group of people who had a lot of power and influence. These people made the decisions and told others what to do. But now, with the power of social media and the internet, anyone can get involved and have their voice heard.

For example, in the United States, the Black Lives Matter movement started on social media. People were using hashtags to share their stories and organize protests. This movement grew because people felt empowered to speak up about police brutality and systemic racism.

Empowerment also allows people to take action on their own. They don't need to wait for a leader to tell them what to do. In Hong Kong, young people started a pro-democracy movement without any formal leadership. They used social media to organize protests and spread their message. This shows that anyone can make a difference if they feel empowered to do so.

However, there are still many challenges for social movements and activism. Some governments try to suppress these movements by limiting access to social media or by arresting activists. But even in these cases, people still find ways to organize and fight for their rights.
