Which social movements have achieved the most empowerment in the past decade?
Hey there!
When it comes to social movements that have achieved the most empowerment in the past decade, there are definitely a few that come to mind. Of course, it's impossible to say definitively which ones have been the most successful, as different movements have different goals and measures of success. However, here are three that I think have made a significant impact:
1) #MeToo: The #MeToo movement has been all over the news in recent years, and for good reason. This movement, which started in 2017 as a way for women to share their experiences of sexual assault and harassment, quickly went viral and sparked a national conversation about the prevalence of these issues. The movement has resulted in the downfall of numerous high-profile men in politics, media, and entertainment who were accused of sexual misconduct. While there's still a lot of work to be done in terms of addressing these issues and creating a culture of consent and respect, the #MeToo movement has definitely brought them to the forefront of national consciousness.
2) Black Lives Matter: The Black Lives Matter movement gained momentum in the wake of the 2013 acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Since then, the movement has focused on issues of police violence and systemic racism in the criminal justice system. The movement has organized numerous protests and advocacy campaigns, and has spurred conversations about race in America that were long overdue. While there's still a lot of work to be done to address these issues, the Black Lives Matter movement has definitely put them on the national agenda in a way they hadn't been before.
3) LGBTQ+ Rights: The LGBTQ+ rights movement has been making strides for decades, but in the past decade there have been some major victories. In 2015, the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, a huge milestone for the movement. Since then, the movement has continued to push for protections against discrimination, both in the workplace and in public accommodations. While there's still a long way to go in terms of achieving full equality for LGBTQ+ people, the progress made in the past decade has been significant.
Of course, there are many other social movements that have achieved empowerment in various ways over the past decade, and different people will likely have different opinions on which ones have been the most successful. However, these are just a few that I think have had a significant impact. Thanks for asking!
