What is the weirdest or most exotic seafood dish you have ever tried?
Well, I consider myself a pretty adventurous eater, so I have tried my fair share of weird and exotic seafood dishes! One of the strangest things I have ever eaten was a plate of live octopus in Korea. It was definitely an experience I will never forget!
The dish is called sannakji, and it's basically just small pieces of octopus that are still moving around on the plate. You have to be really careful when you eat it, because if you're not, the tentacles can actually stick to the inside of your throat and choke you! The idea of eating something that's still alive is definitely not for everyone, but I thought it was really interesting to try. It tasted pretty good too, surprisingly!
Another strange seafood dish I've had was balut, which is a fertilized duck egg that's been boiled and eaten whole. I had it when I was traveling in the Philippines, and I have to say, it's not something I would go out of my way to eat again. The texture was really strange - kind of like a hard-boiled egg but with a soft and slimy part inside that was a little off-putting. It was also pretty challenging to get past the fact that I was eating a nearly fully-formed duck embryo!
On the more exotic side of things, I've tried a variety of different sushi dishes that have featured things like sea urchin, eel, and even horse meat. Some of these flavors were definitely an acquired taste, but I enjoyed being able to try something that was new and different to me. I think that's one of the great things about traveling -- you get to experience different cultures and their food in a way that you never could otherwise.
Overall, I think it's important to be open to trying new things when it comes to food. Of course, there are some things that are definitely not for everyone (like live octopus!), but you never know when you might discover a new favorite dish. Plus, it's always a great conversation starter to be able to say that you've eaten something really unusual!
