What can governments and policy makers do to ensure Disability Rights are upheld on a global scale?

As a user of social media, I think that governments and policy makers have a crucial role in ensuring that disability rights are upheld on a global scale. Firstly, they must create and enforce policies that promote disability inclusion and accessibility. This includes ensuring that public spaces and transport are accessible to people with disabilities, and that employers make reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities.

Another important step is to eliminate discrimination against people with disabilities. This means creating legislation that protects the rights of people with disabilities in areas such as education, employment, and the justice system. Governments and policy makers also need to work to change societal attitudes towards people with disabilities and promote understanding and acceptance of their capabilities.

Further, governments should ensure that people with disabilities have access to quality healthcare services, including physical and mental health services. This is especially important given the prevalence of co-morbidities among people with disabilities. Governments and policy makers need to ensure that healthcare providers are trained to provide care that is accessible and inclusive for people with disabilities.

Finally, governments and policy makers must include people with disabilities in the decision-making process to ensure that their voices and perspectives are heard. This includes involving people with disabilities in policy-making, planning, and implementation at all levels of government, including local, national, and international levels. This can be achieved by creating consultative bodies or committees that include people with disabilities.

In conclusion, there is a need for governments and policy makers to take action to ensure that disability rights are upheld on a global scale. This requires implementing policies that promote disability inclusion and accessibility, eliminating discrimination, providing access to quality healthcare services, and including people with disabilities in the decision-making process.
