What's the best literary magazine out there and why?
When it comes to literary magazines, there are so many great options out there that it's hard to choose just one as the "best." However, after some careful consideration and research, I have to say that my personal favorite is The Paris Review.
First and foremost, The Paris Review has a rich history and legacy in the literary world. It was founded in 1953 by a group of writers including George Plimpton, who would go on to become one of the most respected literary figures of the 20th century. Over the years, the magazine has published work by some of the most important writers of our time, including Ernest Hemingway, Jack Kerouac, T.S. Eliot, and Sylvia Plath, just to name a few.
But what really makes The Paris Review stand out to me is the quality of the writing that it publishes. The editors of the magazine have a discerning eye for great literature, and they are not afraid to take risks and publish work that is experimental or unconventional. At the same time, they also recognize the importance of traditional storytelling and are dedicated to publishing work that is both beautiful and meaningful.
In addition to its writing, The Paris Review is also known for its stunning design and artwork. Each issue is a work of art in its own right, featuring cover art by renowned artists and carefully crafted layouts that enhance and complement the writing within.
But perhaps the most compelling reason to read The Paris Review is the sense of community that it fosters. The magazine has always been committed to promoting and supporting emerging writers, and it has launched the careers of many of today's most beloved authors. It also offers writing workshops, prizes, and other opportunities for writers to connect with each other and with readers.
Overall, I believe that The Paris Review is the best literary magazine out there because it combines a rich history and legacy with a commitment to publishing top-notch writing, stunning design, and a sense of community that fosters creativity and inspires readers and writers alike.
