Who are some of the most renowned poets of all time?

Well, there are certainly a lot of poets who could be considered renowned throughout history! Let me give you a quick rundown of some of the most famous ones:

First up is probably William Shakespeare. Now, he's primarily known for his plays, but he also wrote a fair amount of sonnets and other poetry during his career. Some of his most famous works include "Sonnet 18" ("Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?"), "Sonnet 130" ("My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun"), and "The Rape of Lucrece."

Another classic poet is John Donne. He's known for his metaphysical poetry – basically, poetry that explores the deeper meanings of life and spirituality. Some of his most famous works include "The Good-Morrow," "Death Be Not Proud," and "A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning."

Moving on to more recent times, we have T.S. Eliot. He's often considered one of the most important poets of the 20th century. Some of his most famous works include "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock," "The Waste Land," and "Four Quartets."

Sylvia Plath is another poet who's seen a surge in popularity in recent years. She's known for her confessional poetry, which often delved into her struggles with mental illness and personal relationships. Some of her most famous works include "Daddy," "Lady Lazarus," and "Ariel."

Going even more contemporary, we have poets like Maya Angelou, who was known for her empowering and uplifting work. Her most famous works include "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," "Phenomenal Woman," and "Still I Rise."

And of course, there are many other poets who could be considered renowned throughout history – these are just a few that came to mind for me!
