In other countries, however, encryption may not be used as much or may be actively discouraged by the government. In some cases, governments may even ban certain encryption technologies altogether or require companies to provide backdoor access for law enforcement purposes. This can create a tricky situation for companies that are trying to protect user data while also complying with local regulations.

One interesting example of this dynamic is in China, where the government has strict regulations around online content and surveillance. While some Chinese companies have incorporated encryption to protect user data, a recent cybersecurity law passed in 2017 requires companies to provide encryption keys and other sensitive data to the government upon request.
