Many people simply are not aware of the extent to which certain species are being exploited for their body parts or other products, and how close to extinction they are. By raising awareness about the issue, governments, organizations, and individuals can work together to put a stop to the trade.

Another important aspect of combating illegal wildlife trade is enforcement. Many countries have put in place strict laws and penalties for those who participate in the trade, and are working to step up patrols and inspections of ports, airports, and other points of entry. This has been effective in slowing down the trade and catching those who engage in it.
