What are some natural resources that are endangered or at risk?

Great question! It's important that we become aware of the natural resources that are at risk or endangered. Natural resources are substances that exist naturally and are valuable to human beings either in their raw or modified form. Some of these resources include air, water, soil, minerals, plants and animals.

When it comes to endangered natural resources, I would say that there are few that requires a lot of attention. One obvious example that always surfaces when we talk about this subject is water. Even though water is a renewable resource, it is still finite and scarce in some areas of the world . With the continuous increase of the global population and the changing climate patterns, water scarcity becomes more of an issue. Not only is it important for our daily consumption, but agriculture--, which is so important in providing food worldwide, relies heavily on water sources. Seeing as how agriculture accounts for almost seventy percent (70%) of all water usage globally, it's essential that measures are put in place to conserve this critical resource.


Another natural resource that is at risk is the tropical rain forests. These vast areas of land, which are home to numerous plants and animals are being destroyed at a frightening pace. In fact, experts predict that if we continue with deforestation and forest degradation, we may lose close to eighty percent (80%) of our rain forests by 2030. When these forests are destroyed, countless wastes are thrown into nearby rivers affecting various aquatic lives, and it also results negatively on climate change. The Rainforest, also known as the Lungs of our World, acts as a vital tool to reduce the impact of carbon footprints in the atmosphere through the process of photosynthesis.



Not only are the rain forests are at risk, but also various sea creatures are becoming endangered. Climate changing ocean habitats, overfishing, and pollution are the key factors contributing to this. Some of these sea creatures include sea turtles, sharks, and whales. Man-made pollution such as plastic waste has been found to clog up turtle nostrils and cause fatal injuries. The actions that we take as plastic users can help save the lives of ocean creatures. Recycling and proper waste management practices can do better in reducing the impact of plastic waste.

In conclusion, the issue of natural resources becoming endangered is a global and complex problem affecting all of us. The only saving grace we have is the fact that we can take charge of our actions and show concern towards protecting these resources from becoming extinct. We need to work together in ensuring that we reduce our impact on the environment and make an effort to become the custodians of the resources that this planet provides.
