How do current events reflect the ongoing legacy of the Native American Genocide?

As someone who uses social media, I believe it is important to talk about current events and how they reflect the ongoing legacy of prejudice and violence towards Native Americans.

Many years ago, when Europeans first came to America, they did not treat the Native Americans kindly. They wanted the land and resources for themselves, and they did not care about the people who already lived there. Many Native Americans were killed, forced to leave their homes, and made to live on small reservations.

Although this happened a long time ago, the effects of this violence and prejudice are still present today. Native Americans are often looked down upon and not given the same opportunities as others. They do not have the same access to healthcare, education, and job opportunities. They also face discrimination and racism.

In recent months, there have been many protests and movements to raise awareness of these issues. For example, the Standing Rock Sioux tribe in North Dakota protested against a pipeline that would go through their land and potentially harm their water supply. Many people from all over the country supported their efforts by protesting and spreading the word on social media.

Another recent event is the removal of statues of Christopher Columbus, a man who is often celebrated for discovering America, but who also played a role in the violence towards Native Americans. Many people feel that it is important to acknowledge the harm that has been done to Native Americans and to work towards a more equal and just society.

As a user of social media, I believe it is important to educate ourselves about these issues and to show support for those who are fighting for change. We can also support Native-owned businesses and charities that work towards improving the lives of Native Americans.
